Fun triggers a ripple effect, flowing into every aspect of your life, lifting your self esteem, self confidence and sense of self worth.

These life-expanding benefits occur just as much when you are having fun away from work. In fact the benefits can sometimes be even greater - especially if you don’t like your job - because a personal interest is something you freely choose without any workplace restrictions.

Productivity comes from using your natural skills abilities and talents, only some of which are developed through the workplace. Interests that you pursue away from work, just for fun, unleash many talents. These become part of your ‘transferable skills’, which play a major role in maximising your work productivity.

Once your grandchildren reach the pre-teen and teenage years, you may start to feel as if they no longer want to spend any time with their Grandparents. And while this is true to an extent. Once most kids reach the ages of ten to fourteen, their primary interests are more focused on spending time with friends their own age, and branching out to doing activities away from the family.

Even if you do have a close relationship with your grandchildren once they reach the age range of about ten to fourteen though, you may find yourself struggling for ideas of fun activities to do together. Try to select activities that you know are of interest to the child, but also make sure you’ll enjoy yourself with them too.

Teenagers are sometimes fickle in their preferences, and they can change their mind on a whim too, but there are some stand by activities that are almost always sure to be fun for them and you alike.

1. Go to the movies. Teenagers like to see new movies, and there always seems to be yet another new one coming out each week. So find out which movies are popular right now, or ask them which movies they’ve been wanting to see but haven’t yet. It’s actually important to ask them about the movies they have or haven’t seen, because you may find they’ve already gone to the movies with a friend recently, or they may have no interest in a new one which you recently heard about.

2. Take them out to eat. Almost all teenagers are always ready to eat. Some of them eat constantly, especially if they’re very physically active throughout the day. And sometimes just going to a nice restaurant is a rare treat, but other times they’d like to go to the local hamburger or pizza place instead.

3. Go to the Mall. This is an excellent fun activity for most pre-teens and teenagers of both genders. Girls love to go shopping, or at least looking around at all the new fashions in the stores, while boys will enjoy going to see the electronics or games, and going to play in the arcade areas.

4. Go to a sports event. If you have teenage grandchildren who really like sports, they’ll have lots of fun if you take them to a special sporting event. Football and baseball games are usually excellent standbys, assuming they like those sports. If they like soccer though, then try to take them to a soccer event. If instead, they’re interested in cars, then take them to a monster truck rally or classic car show instead.

Other fun things your teenage grandchildren might enjoy doing with you include going to a music concert - if you like the same music - or going to an amusement park, and even going to batting cages if they like baseball too.

Here’s a classic example of what I’m talking about:

For over a century now, Coca-Cola has been the number one soft drink company in the world. They have vast financial resources and some of the greatest marketing minds available at their disposal. Despite all of that, Coca-Cola failed miserably when it introduced New Coke to the public back in 1985. Why? What happened?

Well, there have been many theories floated over the years, as to why New Coke fizzled out. Like everyone else, I have my own theory. A very simple theory…

People didn’t like New Coke.

It’s as simple as that.

Despite all the research that was done, and despite the thousands of taste tests conducted; the buying public just didn’t like the taste of New Coke. And absolutely nothing Coca-Cola said or did could change that one simple fact.

Unfortunately, that turned out to be a very costly lesson for Coca-Cola. They lost millions of customers to their bitter rival and number two soft drink giant, Pepsi.

They also took a bath financially.

Yes, Coca-Cola is still the number one soft drink. But the gap has been narrowed significantly.

Here’s another example:

Burger King wanted desperately to be “French Fries King.” For years, the No. 2 hamburger chain beat out McDonald’s in taste tests of hamburgers, but the Golden Arches kept a lock on having the number one french fries. So, Burger King spent several years formulating a new french fry, a potato stick coated–unlike its predecessor–with a layer of starch designed to help retain heat and add crunch. Armed with a $70 million marketing war chest, the company rolled out its biggest product launch ever in 1998.

So, what happened? Burger King’s new french fries turned out to be a whopper of a flop! “Sales of fries are significantly down,” stated a 1999 internal memo. “Double digit percent of consumers avoid Burger King because of our french fries.”

Ouch! Fortunately, Coca-Cola and Burger King were able to survive near catastrophic miscalculations, because they had billions of dollars behind them.

But other companies that badly miscalculate that don’t have those kind of financial resources, generally end up going out of business.

That’s basically why so many dot-com companies are dropping like flies–and will continue to do so.

Don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Instead, take the path of least resistance. Focus on what people are actually buying, and promote the daylights out of it, applying sound, proven advertising and marketing techniques.

In closing, you’ll incur fewer risks and your wallet will be a lot fatter, if you just sell what people are buying!

Amish and Mennonite communities are having a common Anabaptist history. The Amish are conservative descendants of Anabaptists who fled to escape from religious persecution in southern Germany and Switzerland in the 1700s. They settled in Pennsylvania and the U.S. Midwest.

During the Reformation era in Europe the Anabaptist Christians rejected infant baptism and chose believer’s baptism. Since many of them had been baptized in their infancy, they chose to be rebaptized as believing adults. So their enemies called them Anabaptists — “re-baptizers.” Mennonites are also descendants of Anabaptists.

Both the Amish and Mennonites speak German dialects, but they still require translators to communicate. As the two groups learned during an evening of singing, they share similar chant-style songs as well.

The establishment of a dialogue has helped to foster discussion. They have established enough trust to discuss painful issues such as divisions within the church. The recent introduction of electricity and rubber tires in some communities has prompted church leaders and many other residents to leave for more conservative colonies in southern Mexico and Bolivia.
